Deep in the Selous Game Reserve, one of the largest protected areas in Africa, lives a dwindling population of African elephants. Once roaming in great numbers, these gentle giants now face increasing threats from poaching and habitat loss. But there is hope. Conservation teams, local villagers, and government rangers are joining forces to protect the elephants through 24/7 surveillance, anti-poaching patrols, and community education.
During a recent visit, we met Mwajuma, a former poacher turned wildlife advocate, who now teaches youth about elephant conservation. Her story is a powerful reminder that change is possible when people are given a second chance. Selous still echoes with the trumpet of elephants—but it’s up to us to keep it that way.
